Applewood Park – West Lakewood (1840 Alkire Ct, Golden, CO 80401) Meet in the parking lot on the south side of the park. There are restrooms, and hopefully (fingers crossed) they’ll be open. WHEN:
This Saturday May 22nd. Plan on being ready to run at 6:50am, and then we’ll send the pace groups off in 1 min. increments starting at 7:00am sharp. Remember that these groups listed below are your TRAINING pace, not your goal race pace.
- 7:00am – 9 min/mile and faster group
- 7:01am – 10 min/mile group
- 7:02am – 11 min/mile and slower & Walkers group
ROUTE & MILEAGE:
Brand new route! We’ll head west around the edge of South Table Mesa towards Rolling Hills CC and then cut back to the east via the neighborhood streets and trails. Before reaching Crown Hill Park we’ll loop back around to the south and west to return to Applewood Park. The route is a 10-mile loop (20 miles out/back), with ~63 feet/mile of elevation gain, much of which comes in the first 1.5 miles, forcing everyone to start out very slow/conservatively. The surface is a nice combo of soft dirt trail and paved residential streets and bike path. There is good restroom access and we will have aid stations with water/Gatorade every ~2.5 miles, picked up by 11:30am (13 min/mile pace).
NOTE: There are two “shortcut” options for a 3-mile and 6.2-mile loop. We will have the start of the shortcuts marked but not the entire shortcut, so you’ll want to read the following notes and study the map if you’d like to run either of those options.
* 3-Mile Shortcut – When the route turns hard-left off the dirt path onto Braun Dr., instead, cross Braun Dr. and continue on the dirt path to W 20th Ave. Cross to the south side of W 20th Ave. and return to Applewood Park.
* 6.2-Mile Shortcut – When the route turns left on Youngfield St. from W 26th Ave., instead, turn right on Youngfield St. and run south to rejoin the route at W 15th Dr. and follow the route back to Applewood Park.
