Runner's Edge of the Rockies

I did it!

First a big THANKS! for all the training help, and words of encouragement as I neared the finish on Sunday. I was feeling really strong and steady through mile 23, then a car cut me off and I had to make an abrupt stop, and my quad knotted. I stopped to massage it out, and that was a mistake. I got cold quickly and everything tightened. I walked but I should have just kept running. After I saw you I dug in (with the help of the friend who came out to run me in at mile 24), and ran the finish. I found the last bit I needed.

The training did kick in, in a lot of levels. I was angry with myself for walking, then had to let go, and go. I remembered your comment, when I said "I think I can" (finish the marathon), and you replied, "I know you can". You reminded me of the training I put in. So that's what I dug into. All the mental and physical preparation. I am looking forward to training for the next race(s). At the older age of 55 I have discovered the athlete in me wants to come out and play. I think I'd like to learn to run faster and stronger. This time the goal was to finish, but I can now see a bigger picture. It's fun to see where I can set appropriate goals for me and work toward them. I believe that sticking with the Runners Edge group and the training you provide will help me reach these goals.

Thanks for providing a fun, supportive group where I've been able to work at my level and ability. The non-judgmental environment helped me look forward to those long runs and achieve my goal of finishing the Denver marathon. The Runners Edge training binder is a wealth of information that I kept referring back to. The training tips and encouragement, as well as your sense of humor, make Saturdays a day I look forward to, even when I have to get up at a ridiculous time to get there from Colorado Springs. I did it!!!!!!!! Thank you.
