Why I run:
I can relate every emotion in life to running: Pain, doubt, fear, anxiety, triumph, euphoria, sadness, etc. While running long distances, I find myself going through emotional, "Stages": The initial anxiety, pain, doubt, and then a sense of euphoria after I did not give up. From the run I can then use what I have learned and apply it to every day life. There are times too during a, "perfect" run that I feel a sense of elation or high that I have not found elsewhere. It is much like when listening to powerful music and every hair on your body stands up and your whole body tingles. You feel like you can do anything. I truly believe running is an 80% mental game and not so much physical.
Hobbies (other than running):
I love to snowboard, restore/drive old fast cars, hike, pretty much anything outdoors.
Favorite place to run:
On any warm ocean beach.
Favorite race:
So far, Runnin' of the Green. It is always cold and lots to do afterwards.
Favorite shoe:
Running in Pearl Izumi's right now. I like them over the Nikes and Brooks I have tried.
Most embarrassing running moment:
Do not follow me on a long run! I am very bad at staying on track. You will get lost with me.
Favorite post-run indulgence:
Long hot shower and ice cold water to drink.
Where I keep my medals:
Right now they hang on a floor standing lamp in the living room.
If I could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, it would be:
Steve Prefontaine
Favorite Runner's Edge Moment:
I am still very new. I look forward to every meeting with the group. Everyone is incredibly nice and helpful.
My biggest fan(s):
My 4-year old and 8-year old sons. I can't wait to go running with them some day.
I bet you didn't know:
Spent most of my life living in National Parks and other places most people visit for vacation: Inside Yellowstone National Park, Alaska, Glen Canyon Arizona (Page Lake Powell), Montana, etc. I have a true love and respect for the outdoors.
