Runner's Edge of the Rockies

Elizabeth Leenhouts

Member of Runner's Edge since:
January 2006

Occupation:
Marketing Director for Seniors Inc. (non-profit)

Hometown:
Williamsburg, Virginia (no, I did not grow up wearing Colonial clothes)

Why I run:
To be a good healthy role model for my daughters. My 20 year High School Reunion this summer has nothing to do with it.

Hobbies (other than running):
Gardening, Cooking, Reading, Volunteering

Favorite place to run:
Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg, VA on Christmas morning.

Favorite race:
I am hoping it will be the Colfax Marathon.

Favorite shoe:
Wooden. (My husband is from the Netherlands.)

Most embarrassing running moment:
Medics on the sidelines of the Peachtree Road Race asking if I needed help because my face was so red. Hello folks...I am in the last wave,it's 102 degrees and 98% humidity on July 4th in Atlanta. Ask the people without red faces why they are pale!

Favorite post-run indulgence:
Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream or just plain cookie dough

Where I keep my medals:
Around my neck for at least a week once I finish my first marathon (Colfax).

If I could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, it would be:
My dog, Gunner. He was my favorite running partner. Unfortunately, in his later years, he was suffering from kidney disease and we had to put him to sleep. Ten minutes later we found out we were pregnant after two tries with IVF. Best/worst day of my life.

My biggest fan(s):
Amber and Bridget (my twin baby girls) and my husband Pieter.

I bet you didn't know:
I was Richard Nixon's youngest fan. When I was five weeks old, Nixon came to our church and needed a photo op with a baby. The press had a heyday with "Nixon's Youngest Fan". My mother knew I would become a bleeding heart liberal when I had a gaseous emission following the photo op.
