Charity Snow Aslin
Member of Runner's Edge since:
Summer/ Fall 2006
Occupation:
Mom, co-owner (with my hubby) of an aerial photography company, In Plane View, LLC
Hometown:
Denver, Colorado
Why I run:
To have balance in my life, to stay in shape, to set a good example for my kids - and I just don't feel right when I don't run... it's something I've done since I was little. When I was 4 or 5, I ran in a kid's run after my dad's 7 mile race and have been running ever since. Shanti Sosienski, author of Women Who Run, states it perfectly, "[r]unning becomes something else, deeper and more ingrained in your body, once you are hooked. [...] there are few other sports that leave you feeling so free." And that's the truth!
Hobbies (other than running):
I play Ultimate Frisbee and spend a lot of time with my friends & family
Favorite place to run:
Outside - anywhere outside. I-m not a gym kind of gal so I'm not picky as long as I'm breathing some outdoor air.
Favorite race:
The NYC Marathon - not only because it was my first marathon (and only so far!) but because it was one of the most amazing, indescribable experiences of my life. The Bolder Boulder has also been a long standing favorite. I've run it almost every year since 1991.
Favorite shoe:
Brooks have served me well.
Most embarrassing running moment:
One of my high school cross country meets. It was at the end of our 5k race at South High School and we were finishing on the track. This girl and I were toe to toe and had about 200 meters to go. My dad (a 2:41 marathoner back in his day) was on the sidelines watching. I started gagging really bad and almost lost it. It was horrible. All I remember is hearing my dad laugh and people looking at me. That girl beat me - all the gagging and embarrassment for not.
Favorite post-run indulgence:
Some beer and a good dinner.
Where I keep my medals:
In our "man den"... a.k.a. our workout room.
If I could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, it would be:
With my Grandpa Gil. Not because he was a runner but because he was an amazing, talented person whom I never got to meet. He died in his late 30's. It would have been great to know him.
Favorite Runner's Edge Moment:
I thought I was going to run my last 20-miler by myself since most of the others' races were earlier in the season than mine and a lot of people were tapering. My wonderful Runner's Edge friend, Tonia, called and said that she arranged for her boyfriend, Thomas (another Edge member) to run the first 10 with me and said she would meet me at the turnaround point and run the final 10 with me. She knew I was nervous about making it through that run by myself. That was just the most thoughtful thing - it almost brought me to tears! Coach David also ran the final ten with us that day. That 20 mile run was the best run of the season! That's what Runner's Edge is all about!
My biggest fan(s):
My wonderful husband, Brandon; my cousin, Kelli; my parents and gram; and my friend, Trish. Amongst all of them they have listened, encouraged, watched my kids and/or traveled with me for the big race. They're the best! And my two sweet girls, Emma & Sydney... because they always cheer me on and keep their mommy going!
I bet you didn't know:
I'm a Mayflower descendant. My great-grandma (how ever many times removed), Mary Chilton, came over on the Mayflower as a teenager.
