PACE GROUP LEADER
WALKERS
Jill Roberts
If you're running with Runner's Edge and hear someone singing TV theme songs, Christmas carols, or "100 Bottle of Beer on the Wall", then you've encountered pace group leader Jill Roberts and the walker pace group. But don't let their playfulness fool you - no one better exemplifies that distance walking is a real sport than Jill. She has completed 13 marathons since 1998, including a Goofy Challenge (the famed Disneyworld event that consists of a half marathon on day one, and a full marathon on day two). And she'll be the first to tell you that Runner's Edge walkers are athletes with just as much discipline and commitment as our Boston-bounders.
Jill's supportive, can-do attitude is infectious. A champion of group training, she feels it provides the optimal environment for success. "Marathons and marathon training have been such a positive and fun experience for me, I'd like to create the same setting for others and boost their belief in themselves along the way". Her focus is four-fold:
- Keep the focus on the participants' goals
- Keep the goals attainable
- Celebrate accomplishments
- Leave the group feeling like they can't wait to come back the next week
Jill also loves scuba diving, hot air ballooning, and skiing. Outside of adventure she is a supply chain program manager at IBM and is involved with the Women's Business Link and Colorado's NAFE (National Association of Femae Executives). But she finds the most joy spending time with her husband, Dan (a runner in the 3:45 pace group) and their young daughter.
